Legendary professional wrestling manager Captain Lou Albano died on Wednesday morning at the age of 76. He had been undergoing hospice care at his home prior to his death.
Captain Lou Albano (A.K.A. Louis Vincent Albano) recently wrote an autobiography with a foreword by Cyndi Lauper, who used the Captain in her popular “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” music video that helped bring media attention to the world of professional wrestling during the early 1980s as Vince McMahon took what was then the WWF national.
Albano was the manager of many strange and exotic tag team champions including the Masked Executioners, the Mongols, the Yukon Lumberjacks, the Moondogs and the Wild Samoans. He is also in the WWE Hall of Fame.
Wrestler’s Rescue is collecting donations to be forwarded to the Albano family for medical expenses. Visit WrestlersRescue.org for more.
