A massive Brooklyn sinkhole that suddenly opened up yesterday almost swallowed a parked car and caused a major headache for city workers.
Repair crews plan to work through the weekend to repair the hole.
The 20-foot-wide Brooklyn sinkhole formed at around 6 p.m. EDT in the Bay Ridge neighborhood.
A woman and her mother had just parked their vehicle when the sinkhole opened up, leaving the vehicle teetering on the brink of disaster.
“We’re so blessed,” Maddie Flood told 1010-WINS radio. “If we were five minutes later or anything, we could have been in the hole.”
New York’s Department of Environmental Protection says the large Brooklyn sinkhole was caused by a sewer main break.
