Oh what a tangled web we weave, when we choose to sleep with assistants.
ESPN baseball analyst Steve Phillips is in a world of trouble, having slept with Brooke Hundley, a 22-year-old assistant, several times over the summer. When Phillips, 46, tried to break off the affair, Hundley apparently went off the deep end.
She began calling Phillips’ wife, Marni Phillips, 40, and sending her ominous text messages (including one that read, “We both can’t have him!”). She even dropped a letter off at the Phillips residence, outlining the details of the affair (read the full letter here).
When Marni Phillips spotted her, however, she sped off and accidentally plowed her car into a stone column.
Hundley has even gone so far as to pose a classmate of Steve Phillips’ son and contact him via Facebook, asking questions about his parents’ marriage.
This fiasco emerges just 11 years after Phillips took a leave of absence as the General Manager of the New York Mets after admitting to having sexual relations with a team employee, Rosa Rodriguez, who later sued him for sexual harassment.
As a result of this latest affair, Phillips’ wife is now suing him for divorce. The couple has four sons together.
“I have extreme concerns about the health and safety of my kids and myself,” said Steve Phillips in a police statement, adding that Hundley became “obsessive and delusional” after he dumped her.
