Brittany Murphy Was Ill Just Days Before Her Death

The L.A. coroner’s office revealed today that Brittany Murphy was ill with flulike symptoms just days prior to her death.

An autopsy is currently underway to determine the exact cause of death.  Thus far, sources indicate that Murphy’s death appears to have been from natural causes.  The question is, who dies of natural causes at age 32?  The coroner says the illness could have led to her death.  It will likely be several weeks before we get some answers.

Toxicology tests will be done and officials will contact her doctor to get more information on Murphy’s medical history.

Funeral arrangements have not been made public.

“The sudden loss of our beloved Brittany is a terrible tragedy,” Murphy’s husband, Simon Monjack, and family said in a statement. “She was our daughter, our wife, our love, and a shining star. We ask you to respect our privacy at this difficult time.”

Murphy’s father, Angelo Bertolotti, says he found out about her death from his son, Murphy’s brother, and was shocked.

“She was just an absolute doll since she was born,” Bertolotti said from his Florida home. “Her personality was always outward. Everybody loved her — people that made movies with her, people on a cruise — they all loved her. She was just a regular gal.”

Bertolotti divorced from her mother when Brittany Murphy was young and had not seen the actress in the several years.

“She was just talented,” Bertolotti said. “And I loved her very much.”
