The Los Angeles Police Department’s initial investigation of Brittany Murphy‘s death reveals no evidence of foul play. Unfortunately, that’s about all we know about her cause of death at this point.
An initial assessment of the Brittany Murphy autopsy results seemed to indicate that the actress died of “natural causes.” The autopsy results, however, have been deferred pending toxicology and neurological tests.

The LAPD says that there is still the possibility that she overdosed on prescription medication.
“We are keeping the investigation open until the toxicology reports are available in five to six weeks,” said one source within the department.
“We are focusing on possible overdose scenarios including looking at prescription medicines.”
One source has said after Murphy’s death, “There were a lot…a lot of prescriptions in the house.”
It will take weeks for test results to come through, along with various toxicology screenings.
