It’s been an eventful month for the cast of the ’80s comedy Family Ties. Just six days ago Meredith Baxter admitted that she was a lesbian.
Now former child star Brian Bonsall, who played little Andy Keaton on the series, has been arrested. Bonsall was arrested in Colorado over the weekend after he allegedly struck his best friend in the face with a broken bar stool.
The actor, 28, had been sought by police since July, 2008 on a separate assault warrant.
Bonsall was nabbed at the home of his friend, Micheal Trujillo, on Saturday night, where they had been drinking and arguing loudly. According to the official arrest report, Bonsall hit Trujillo with the stool but doesn’t remember a thing.
“Bonsall then said that he and Trujillo both are bipolar and like drugs,” according to the report. “Bonsall said that he takes a lot of drugs and sometimes those drugs make him forget things.”
Since his days as Michael J. Fox‘s brother Andy on Family Ties, Bonsall has stuck around Boulder. he eventually graduated from high school and has been arrested several times, including once for assaulting his girlfriend.
In 2008, police were certain he had violated the terms of his probation and were preparing to file new charges against him, but Bonsall didn’t show at his hearing on July 16, 2008. He has been wanted since that date.
He is now up against new third-degree assault charges and is being held at the Boulder County Jail on bonds totaling $7,500.
