Boy Awarded 6.9 MillionHere’s an interesting story that’s going viral on the web.  A now-14-year-old boy has been awarded $6.9 million.

That’s the good news.  The bad news is that the student was the victim in a child molestation case against the Los Angeles Unified School District.

As a fifth-grader, the unnamed victim was sexually abused repeatedly by teacher Forrest Stobbe.

In September of last year, Stobbe pleaded “no contest” to two counts of a lewd act on a child and also to continuous sexual abuse of a child younger than 14.

Stobbe is now serving a 16-year prison sentence.

Stobbe reportedly molested the boy starting in October 2008, when the 10-year-old was his student, and continued to do so through the following July, when he was finally taken into custody.

“We take our duty to protect our students seriously and are continually looking for ways that we can strengthen our screening and reporting processes to ensure that no child is ever hurt in this way,” said general counsel David Holmquist. “Although we can’t change what happened in this case, we remain committed to doing everything in our power to promote healing and improve trust with those impacted.”

Thank goodness this poor buy has been compensated for those many months of anguish, although I would imagine all the money in the world couldn’t right such a heinous wrong.
