Have you ever felt bad about that library book that you accidentally kept for an extra week? Don’t.
A book that was returned to the New Bedford Public Library in Massachusetts recently wasn’t just a week overdue, it was almost 100 years overdue. The total fine came to $361.35.
“Facts I Ought to Know about the Government of My Country” was due back on May 10, 1910.
Stanley Dudek stumbled upon the book while he was cleaning out some things that belonged to his mother, who had passed away about 10 years earlier. When he found the massively-overdue book, he decided to return it.
Luckily, the library didn’t ask Dudek to pay the fine.
Instead, the library is going to show the book in one of its special collections.
