Police in Montreal have issued a Canada-wide arrest warrant for 29-year-old Luka Rocco Magnotta, who stands accused of dismembering someone and sending some of the body parts via the mail.
A foot was delivered to Conservative Party Headquarters on Tuesday.
Magnotta is a bisexual porn star and a described “YouTube kitten killer.” He was also romantically linked to Karla Homolka, although he has denied that publicly.
Montreal Police Constable Simon Delorme says local detectives spent the night scouring the crime scene and, although they need an autopsy to officially identify the victim, the torso is that of a man.
The first package was discovered on Tuesday morning in a package that had been delivered to party headquarters a few blocks from Parliament Hill.
“The suspect and victim knew each other,” said Montreal police Cmdr. Ian Lafreniere. “It isn’t linked to organized crime.”
Ottawa police said Tuesday night they intercepted a second suspicious package containing another human body part.
That package was a brown paper bag containing a severed hand. It’s not known exactly for whom that package was intended.
Tuesday morning’s bizarre find led to a morning call to police and paramedics regarding a suspicious package.
First responders spotted blood splattered on the package and immediately called in the hazardous-material unit.
When the specialists opened the package, they found the severed appendage inside.
An autopsy is expected to reveal how the man was killed.
The autopsy will be performed in a few days, but so far “all indications are that these are from the same body,” a communications agent for Montreal police said, citing a preliminary report. “We are still waiting for final results.”
