ESPN broadcaster Bob Griese has been suspended one week after making a racist remark about NASCAR’s Juan Pablo Montoya.
ESPN’s Josh Krulewitz says Griese won’t be working any games this week.
Krulewitz says that Griese “understands the comment was inappropriate.”
During the station’s coverage of the Minnesota vs. Ohio State game on Saturday, a graphic was displayed listing the top five in NASCAR’s points race. Fellow analyst Chris Spielman asked where Montoya was (who is Columbian).
Griese replied he was “out having a taco.”
He apologized twice on the air for the remark.
Montoya has declined to comment on Griese’s suspension. On Sunday, he seemed to brush it off, saying that he’d never heard of Griese.
