OK, so maybe people really will be spending less money online this holiday season. You certainly wouldn't know that based on the insane traffic levels several online retailers experienced yesterday.
It seems that the traffic was just too much for some servers to handle. Among the websites that crashed yesterday were Sears.com and LiveCashback.
Too bad because Microsoft's LiveCashback had some really nice deals lined up for Black Friday.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that people shopped online yesterday. This year, retailers have been promoting online sales more heavily than in the past. In the case of Sears.com, the promotions seem to have worked too well: The site was unavailable for many visitors between 10am and 12:40pm EST yesterday. A spokesman for Sears said that traffic was “higher than anticipated” and that the company was taking steps to ensure the site would be available on Monday—another popular online-shopping day.
