What will likely be the "biggest" electronic product release this month? Amazon's new Big Screen Kindle DX of course.

We've known that this device was coming ever since February. Now, all signs point to a release on Wednesday.

On May 6, Amazon will hold a press conference at Pace University in New York City at 10:30am EDT. The subject will likely be the debut of its Big Screen Kindle DX product for newspapers, magazines, etc.

We’d like to invite you to an Amazon.com press conference scheduled for Wednesday, May 6 at 10:30 am ET. The press conference is scheduled to take place at the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts at Pace University, located at 3 Spruce Street, New York City. Doors will open for registration at 9:30 am ET.

Will this new device truly be a savior for the print news industry? Brad Stone with the NY Times writes:

"Amazon, maker of the Kindle, appears to be first in line to try throwing an electronic life preserver to old-media companies. As early as this week, according to people briefed on the online retailer’s plans, Amazon will introduce a larger version of its Kindle wireless device tailored for displaying newspapers, magazines and perhaps textbooks.

An Amazon spokesman would not comment, but some news organizations, including The New York Times, are expected to be involved in the introduction of the device, according to people briefed on the plans. A spokeswoman for The Times, Catherine J. Mathis, said she could not comment on the company’s relationship with Amazon."

Well, that could certainly be a big hint.

Is this really going to be the greatest thing since sliced bread? Amazon certainly wants us to believe that it will be. Still, the product looks large, and I really can't see anyone carrying this thing around very easily.

Yes, it will be great to finally have a Big Screen Kindle DX product that can display crisp, colorful images and large print, but it looks a bit cumbersome to tote around town.
