Best in Show 2012 Westminster Dog ShowMalachy the Pekingese took home the coveted Best in Show ribbon last night at the prestigious 2012 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City.

While Martha Stewart’s Chow Chow, Ghenghis Khan II, took home a Best in Breed ribbon yesterday morning, it was Malachy who was named the country’s number one show dog.

When the finals came to a close, he had defeated almost 2,000 other purebreds.

The competition was the 136th edition of Westminster Dog Show, which inspired the classic faux-documentary film “Best in Show”.

The Westminster Kennel Club describes the Pekingese as an ancient, genuine dog breed originating in China dating back to 800 A.D.

It has been a favorite pet of the Chinese, European, and American aristocracies.
