Just days after local residents in central China were cautioned to remain indoors due a mysterious yellowish haze spreading over the land, a giant mushroom cloud was spotted in the skies over Beijing.
Although some locals claim the strange cloud is fallout from a chemical plant explosion, Chinese authorities insist there’s nothing more to see here. In fact, if you date to suggest that the cloud is the result of some kind of industrial accident, they’ll likely throw you in the slammer.
“Many farmers choose to burn crops that are left behind in their fields after harvesting,” said the Xinhua news agency.
Nothing to see here, folks, please move along.
