A federal judge in Seattle has sentenced “Barefoot Bandit” Colton Harris-Moore to 6-1/2 years in prison for his two-year crime spree of break-ins, boat, and plane thefts that came to a close in 2010.
According to authorities, Harris-Moore traversed the U.S. in the stolen vehicles. He flew a stolen plane to the San Juan Islands, stole a pistol in British Columbia, and took a plane from Idaho to Washington state. In Washington, he then stole a boat to go to Oregon, and took a plane in Indiana which he then flew to the Bahamas where he was finally arrested.
Harris-Moore earned the nickname “Barefoot Bandit” due to the fact that he committed several of his crimes without wearing shoes.
He addressed the court before Judge Richard Jones handed down the sentence, which will be served concurrently with his seven-year state prison sentence he received last month.
