Activists from the Rainforest Action Network (RAN) turned Bank of America ATMs into temporary political machines of truth last week.
Using non-adhesive stickers made to resemble B of A’s ATM screens, the machines were manipulated to give customers a new menu of choices showing what their money was being used for.
The stickers “offered a list of everything BoA customers’ money is being used for, including investment in coal-fired power plants, foreclosure on Americans’ homes, bankrolling of climate change, and paying for fat executive bonuses.”
RAN managed to alter 85 Bank of America ATMs in San Francisco.
The stunt was all part of RAN’s new Tumblr, BankruptingAmerica.tumblr.com, which, it seems, will “track all the ways B of A is bankrupting America, hence the name.”
