Way to go, Baltimore. You’re making us proud once again.
A 26-year-old man was stabbed to death and a 4-year-old boy was injured by a stray bullet in separate incidents at the annual downtown fireworks display last night here in our home town, also known as “The City That Bleeds”.
The Inner Harbor‘s Independence Day celebration turned ugly at around 10 p.m. EDT near the McCormick & Schmick’s restaurant located near the Pier Six concert pavilion.
The stabbing victim was pronounced dead at the Maryland Shock Trauma center around midnight. He’s been ID’d by police but his name hasn’t yet been released “because he was from Alabama and notification of relatives was taking longer than normal,” according to police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.
The stabbing occurred after an altercation between the victim and a group of individuals, but the child seems to have been wounded by a stray bullet.
The child was with his parents at the time, and reports indicate that the bullet passed through the boy’s leg, near the groin, but fortunately it didn’t have much velocity.
Guglielmi says that no arrests have yet been made in the case, but they do have have a photograph and have made “damn good progress” so far.
