AT&T is pondering a reduction in the basic monthly iPhone plan cost from $69 to $59. This announcement could accompany their anticipated unveiling of the next-gen iPhone the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8.

iPhone sales at Wal-Mart stores haven’t lived up to expectations, which has Apple concerned and looking for ways to make the product more affordable.

Previous rumors of an iPhone nano do not seem to be true at this point, so this would be a good first step toward reducing price barriers.

Pricing reductions have helped Apple’s iPhone sales in the past, so if AT&T is able to convince more consumers to purchase the iPhone, it would be a win-win situation for both companies.

Apple may also look to broaden the iPhone’s availability and make it available on other networks, like Verizon.

The current cost of owning an iPhone,  including a two-year commitment to AT&T contract, clocks in at $1,880.
