F My Life: It's Funny, It's True, Except When It Happens to You
Need something else to worry about? NASA has debuted a new Twitter account that serves to notify you if a near-Earth asteroid is on its way.
You can now follow @AsteroidWatch and get detailed data on potential Doomsday objects found by the NASA asteroid watch program. As an added bonus, amateur astronomers can use the data as well.
"Most people have a fascination with near-Earth objects,” says Don Yeomans, manager of NASA’s Near-Earth Object Program Office. "And I have to agree with them. I have studied them for over three decades and I find them to be scientifically fascinating, and a few are potentially hazardous to Earth. The goal of our Web site is to provide the public with the most up-to-date and accurate information on these intriguing objects."
In addition to the new Twitter account, there is also a new Asteroid Watch website and desktop widget that gives "the public an unprecedented look at what’s going on in near-Earth space."
