F My Life: It's Funny, It's True, Except When It Happens to You

Arturo Gatti Found DeadFormer boxing champ Arturo Gatti has been found dead in northeastern Brazil, according to several reports.  Gatti has been scheduled to testify in New York next week in a lawsuit against the state of New York's athletic commission.

Gatti, 37, was on his second honeymoon with his wife and 10-month-old baby when his body was found in an apartment in Porto de Galinhas.

Police have initiated an investigation as foul play is suspected.  It seems that Arturo Gatti was found in his underwear with blood stains on his neck and head.  The discovery was made at about 6am on Saturday.

Gatti was raised in Montreal and was one of the most energetic fighters in the sport.  He was set to appear in court to testify in a lawsuit charging negligence by the NYSAC at the weigh-in for the February, 2000 bout that left his opponent, Joey Gamache, almost dead from head trauma and also left Gamache with permanent brain damage.

Gatti had knocked Gamache down two times in the first round alone, then pounded him relentlessly in the second round of their fight at Madison Square Garden.  According to Gamache, Gatti was about 19 pounds overweight for the 141-pound fight.
