Arnold Stang, the actor known for his geeky looks and nasal tone, has died. He was 91 years old.
Stang died on Sunday from complications related to pneumonia at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Massachusetts, said his wife of 60 years, JoAnne Stang.
She says her husband could tackle any challenge that happened to come his way.
“He was really unique, because he could perform in any role, comedy or drama, he just loved it all,” she says. “He always thought of himself just as an actor, not any particular kind of actor, but just an actor who would play whatever he was asked to play.”
Stang began his career on the radio and never lost his affection for it.
JoAnne can remember her husband hurrying across Manhattan back in the day to perform on different radio shows. In those days, they were all broadcast live.
He played alongside Milton Berle on radio and television in the 1950s and was Frank Sinatra‘s right hand man in the 1955 flick, “The Man with the Golden Arm”. Stang was also part of the cast for “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World”.
He also voiced the lead character in the 1960s cartoon “Top Cat”. He even did commercials, most notably, for the Chunky candy bar.
Stang is also survived by his son David and his daughter Deborah.
