Hooters girls Arizona Teacher on Leave after Taking Students to Hooters

A music teacher in Arizona whose class performed at President Barack Obama's inauguration is now on administrative leave after taking forty of her students to eat at a Hooters restaurant in downtown Phoenix.

Mary Segall, a choir director at Paradise Valley High School, went with her choral students to a performance at Arizona Center last week. While they were there, the students ate lunch at Hooters, according to Judi Willis, a spokesperson for the district.

Segall claims that the Hooters was the only place that could accommodate such a large group.

"We believe that there are many venues for lunch for a large group of people in the downtown Phoenix area," Willis said. "There could have been a choice that might have been more appropriate, given that it was a school-day event with a school employee in charge."

Segall has been a teacher in the district for over 23 years and was planning on retiring in January. That was before this incident, however.  She took the school choir and strings to D.C. back in January to perform at the "History in the Making: A Dream and a Change Inaugural Ball."

It is not known whether Segall will return to the district before she retires.

"I am sure that someone is covering her classes," she said.
