ares 1 x launchAfter being scrubbed yesterday due to unfavorable weather conditions, the Ares 1-X launched at 11:30 a.m. EDT on Wednesday morning from Cape Canaveral.

The Ares 1-X is the biggest U.S. rocket to venture into space since the Saturn V.

The giant rocket executed a 90-degree roll as part of its test flight to verify the flight control and dynamics as it headed due east over the waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

The upper stage pf the Ares 1-X then separated and dropped into the ocean as planned. The rocket’s lower stage deployed parachutes for later recovery.
