Apple is on the verge of hitting the 1 billion app downloads mark. They even have a countdown page to help keep track.
There is also a special contest to commemorate the event.
Whenever you download an app, you will then be entered to win a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card, an iPod touch, a Time Capsule, and a MacBook Pro.
Apple has also announced the top 20 iPhone apps of all time, paid and free. See the list below:
