In the wake of the tragic suicide of a 15-year-old girl whose topless photos were spread around the internet by a bully, the hacktivist group known as Anonymous may have just outed said bully.
Amanda Todd hanged herself last week after being repeatedly harassed over the photos.
When she was just 12 years old, a man she met in an internet chat room persuaded her to flash her breasts, and one year later, he posted pictures of the incident across Facebook.
Now Anonymous has supposedly named the man allegedly responsible for the bullying.
The group says he is a 32-year-old man from British Columbia, but we won’t name him here for legal reasons.
In the YouTube video below, an Anonymous member claims the group has posted his personal information, including his date of birth and mailing address.
They go on to explain that his username appears on websites where he “blackmailed” and gave advice to underage girls. The same username is also tied to a website that has a “jailbait” photo gallery.
You can view the video from Anonymous below, and click through to view the man’s information in the video description.
What do you think of this move by Anonymous? Is the age of trial-by-internet here?
Dear citizens of our nation.
We have brought this announcement forward solely for the purpose of releasing Amanda Todd’s punisher’s identity.
Below, you will find a URL to the man’s DOX. In there, you will see various information about said person. [Redacted - thank you, Reddit] is an abomination to our society, and will be punished.
We Are Anonymous.
We Are Legion.
We Do Not Forget.
We Do Not Forgive.
