Legendary composer Andrew Lloyd Webber is battling prostate cancer, according to his spokeswoman.
Lloyd Webber’s condition is still in its early stages, according to an official statement.
“Andrew is now undergoing treatment and expects to be fully back at work before the end of the year,” the statement said.
Lloyd Webber, 61, recently unveiled plans to debut a sequel to the insanely popular musical “Phantom of the Opera.” The sequel, entitled “Love Never Dies,” is set to begin in London in March of 2010 and then have a Broadway run in November.
Andrew Lloyd Webber recently said at a media event that he doesn’t consider the new story to be a sequel, but rather a “standalone piece.”
The original “Phantom of the Opera” has viewed by over 100 million people across the globe. In September, it officially became the longest-running show in Broadway history, topping Lloyd Webber’s “Cats.”
