F My Life: It's Funny, It's True, Except When It Happens to You
Kings Island made a grave mistake. The Ohio amusement park has gotten rid of a Halloween Haunt display showcasing skeletons of dead celebrities.
Kings Island spokesman Don Helbig spent all day Thursday helping to take down the skeleton of slain NFL quarterback Steve McNair and his dead mistress Sahel Kazemi, along with several other skeletons that were made to resemble deceased celebrities...among them: Heath Ledger and Michael Jackson.
The celebrity skeletons were located near a popular rollercoaster and "generic" skeletons have now gone up in their place, Helbig said.
"We weren't intending for it to be distasteful and we do apologize if we offended anyone," he said.
The park received particularly negative feedback regarding the McNair display, especially in Nashville, where McNair spent most of his pro football career and was killed on July 4th of this year.
The McNair skeleton donned a #9 jersey and was sitting on a sofa with another skeleton (which was wearing a dress) in its lap. A pistol was on the ground and the jersey-wearing skeleton was holding a Tennessee Titans snack bowl. Yes, seriously.
George Plaster, a radio talk show host in Nashville, discussed the Steve McNair skeleton on his show on Wednesday.
Plaster said he was appalled when he heard of the exhibit.
"I can't imagine how anybody would get in a room, in a planning session, in what is a pretty tasteful theme park, and decide that's OK and classy," he said. "Not one person said, 'Wait a minute, that's incredibly insensitive?' I'm stunned at that."
