amsterdam plane crash

A Turkish Airlines plane carrying 134 passengers and crew members crashed in some fog while trying to land at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport this afternoon.  Nine people were killed in the crash and dozens have been injured.

Around 84 people have been taken to area hospitals, including 25 who were severely hurt, when flight TK 1951 from Istanbul slammed into a field just short of the runway at Schiphol, Europe’s fifth-largest airport.

Six passengers are currently in critical condition.

“We cannot say anything about the cause at the moment,” acting local mayor Michel Bezuijen told reporters. “The priority…is providing help and care.”

The pilots were among nine people killed in the tragedy. The aircraft broke into three pieces when it hit the ground.
