21-year-old Amanda Lawrence married her boyfriend in a ceremony at the hospital just one day before dying due to injuries she suffered when the vehicle driven by her boyfriend’s brother hit her.
Lawrence and Shane Swift, the “love of her life”, had a 10-month-old daughter together and planned to tie the knot in a few weeks.
Instead, they decided to get married on Friday. On Saturday, Lawrence died of injuries sustained when she was hit by a pick-up truck driven by Swift’s younger brother.
Amanda had been in critical condition ever since the August 18 accident in Port Sheldon Township. Austin Swift, 16, says he couldn’t see Lawrence, who was walking with his mother, Pamela Swift, and little niece, Hayleigh Swift, due to the position of the sun. He ended up hitting them with a GMC Silverado pickup.
Hayleigh received some abrasions and was treated at the scene. Pamela Swift, 48, sustained a leg injury and was taken to a local medical facility.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday at Calvary Christian Reformed Church. Amanda Lawrence’s obituary included mention of her recent wedding: “On August 20, 2010, she married the love of her life, Shane Swift.”
A Facebook page was also established, “In Loving Memory of Amanda Lynn Lawrence-Swift“.
A memorial fund has been established for Hayleigh Swift at Fifth Third Bank on Riley Street in Holland.
