Amanda Carina Barbosa Rodrigues: Gatti Murderer?

On Saturday, we reported on the sudden death of former boxing champ Arturo Gatti.  On Sunday, his wife, Amanda Carina Barbosa Rodrigues, was detained by Brazilian police.

Gatti’s body was discovered in a hotel room at the Porto de Galihnas resort, where he was staying with his wife and their infant son.  Now it appears as though Amanda Carina Barbosa Rodrigues may have murdered her husband on their supposed “second honeymoon”.

Authorities took Rodrigues into custody after finding inconsistencies in her story…most notably, how in the world did she spend ten hours in the hotel room with Arturo Gatti without noticing that he was dead?

Also, authorities note that Gatti was strangled with a purse strap…a purse was found at the “crime scene ” with blood stains on it, although no one has yet stated that the purse belonged to Rodrigues.

The relationship between the two has historically bee unstable at best.  The two were often quite jealous of one another, and Gatti often harped on Rodrigues for dressing too provocatively.

Also, back in March, Gatti was charged with assaulting Rodriguez.  He failed to appear at his court hearing. When he finally appeared in April, he was released on bail and ordered to stay at least 200 meters away from Rodriguez at all times.
