Alexandria Mills, a gorgeous 18-year-old from the United States, was surprisingly named the new Miss World on Saturday night in southern China. Mills was not the favorite going into the competition.
Emma Wareus of Botswana finished second, while Adriana Vasini of Venezuela came in third place.
China’s own Tang Xiao finished among the final five.
Mills hails from Louisville, Kentucky and recently graduated from high school. She says she would like to become a teacher.
“I’ve never met a stranger and enjoy meeting new people,” she says in her bio on the Miss World website.
Mills inherits the crown from Kaiane Aldorino of Gibraltar, who won the Miss World 2009 competition in South Africa at the end of last year.
This was the 60th annual Miss World Competition and pageant organizers brought back contestants from previous decades to honor the momentous occasion.
