Alexa Ray Joel Hospitalized after Suicide Attempt

Alexa Ray Joel, daughter of musician Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley, was hospitalized in New York on Saturday after an apparent suicide attempt.

Alexa, 23, was whisked to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan afternoon after supposedly taking a large amount of sleeping pills.

At around 12:21 p.m. EST, Alexa’s roommate placed a 911 call. She said that Alexa had been depressed after a break-up with her boyfriend and might have taken too many pills.

In August, Alexa posted on her MySpace page about her love life.

“I don’t like dating!!! Wish I could be in a relationship again without having to date,” she wrote. “I HATE going out!! I’m a homebody and a workaholic… I don’t like going out and drinking to meet men!!! I always have to drag myself out the door to get up the motivation to go out, and when I do go out, I don’t meet anybody!!!” she wrote. “I live in the greatest city in the world and I can’t seem to meet an interesting guy who also happens to be NICE.”

Alexa Ray is the sole daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley.  The couple got divorced back in 1994 after a nine year marriage.

After dropping out of New York University, Alexa embarked on a singing career. She is reportedly lucid and should recover.
