After long and arduous legal battle, Minnesota senator Norm Coleman has finally accepted the fact that Al Franken really did win his Senate seat back in November of last year.
Here is Coleman's statement:
“I congratulate Al Franken
. Sure I wanted to win. I thought we had a better case. But the court has spoken.”
Franken’s seat now gives Democrats the sixty-seat advantage that they need in order to block Republicans from delaying Democrat legislation.
Senator-elect Franken will be able to take his seat by next week (there is a slight delay due to the July 4th holiday). In a statement, President Barack Obama said:
“I look forward to working with Senator-Elect Franken to build a new foundation for growth and prosperity by lowering health care costs and investing in the kind of clean energy jobs and industries that will help America lead in the 21st century.”
