Air Jordan 11 Concord RiotsLeave it to the release of a new shoe to send the masses into a frenzy right before Christmas.

The release of the highly-anticipated Nike Air Jordan XI Concord led to an early morning riot at Southland Mall in Michigan and resulted in the arrest of a 21-year-old man who is accused of inciting the riot.

Authorities said Southland Mall security called police for backup around 5:30 a.m. this morning when a large crowd of approximately 300 people were lined up outside. The mall was not scheduled to open until 8 a.m.

Why wait though? Police said about 100 people sneaked into the mall through two doors near JCPenney and Best Buy. The crowd then forced their way into the mall by pulling the main doors open and created some minor interior damage.

The crowd was safely dispersed with only one arrest. There were no injuries and the property damage was isolated to the interior of the mall.

Police used pepper spray to break up fights among pushing and shoving customers waiting outside a mall in Seattle.

About 20 people were sprayed in one group. One person there was arrested for assault after police say he pushed an officer. No one was injured.

The Nike Air Jordan XI Concords are selling for about $180.

Several other riots and melees broke out at malls across the country, as seen in the videos below.
