It was all a hoax. So says Bethany Storro, the 28-year-old woman in Vancouver who claimed that someone threw acid in her face.

Storro has admitted that she threw the acid into her own face on August 30, according to Vancouver Police Chief Clifford Cook.

When police searched Storro’s home yesterday and confronted her, she confessed.

“She is extremely upset. She is very remorseful,” said Commander Marla Schuman.

Storro had said earlier this month that, as she was headed to purchase coffee at a local Starbucks, a woman approached her, saying, “Hey pretty girl, do you want to drink this?”

The woman, Storro said, proceeded to throw a cup of acid in her face.

At the time, Storro said the woman was African-American and appeared to be in her late 20s or possibly her early 30s.

As Vancouver Police continued to investigate the alleged crime, more and more “discrepancies emerged,” said Cook.

Vancouver Police will proceed with its investigation and will then determine whether or not to file charges against Storro.

“She’s got a fragile mental state at this point,” Schuman said.

Just last week, Storro’s appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show was canceled.  According to Storro, the show was going in headed in another direction from what she had hoped, so she decided to pull the plug on the appearance.
