A 6-year-old girl may soon be evicted from the home of her grandparents.
Kimberly, the 6-year-old in question, lives with her grandparents and legal guardians, Jimmy & Judy Stottler. She went to live with them after her mother lost custody due to a chronic drug problem. The problem is that Jimmy and Judy live in a Florida Retirement Community where all residents must be over the age of 55...no exceptions.
Kimberly is only six, so the case has been brought to the local police department so they can be evicted, Is this occurs, she would then be turned over to child services and put into a foster home...unless the Stottlers can move first.
They had planned to move a while ago, however, with the recent crash of the housing market, it has been almost impossible for them to sell their house and move.
The house has been on the market for over 12 months. The Stottlers started at an asking price of $250,000 and later dropped it to $129,000. There are still on interested buyers.
A reporter with MSNBC managed to speak to a few local residents who seemed to have very little sympathy for little Kimberly's situation.
One resident said, "I believe they should go."
Leland Wheeler, the president of the Lakes Homeowners Association, was asked if he was worried about the fact that he may be seen as the bad guy. He replied, "No the sheriff will. I will merely be the president of the board who is trying to enforce the policies of our association that she agreed to when she moved in."
