Sometimes, you just have to wonder what goes on inside people’s heads.
A 6-year-old bully in Texas was reportedly force to sit before a classroom full of his peers while his fellow students lined up to hit him.
Aiden Neely had been labeled a “bully” by his teacher and was taken to another classroom, where kids were encouraged to repeatedly strike him.
In all, about 24 students were told to take a swing at Neely, who, according to his mother, has experienced severe “emotional trauma” ever since.
The Salinas Elementary School teacher had said that Aiden “was a bully in her classroom,” according to the police report.
The first teacher, who was struggling with how to deal with a potential bully, asked one of her colleagues for advice. After separating the 6-year-old from his class, “the second teacher took Aiden into her kindergarten classroom and told her students to hit him in order to ‘teach him why bullying is bad,’ instructing them to ‘Hit him!’ and ‘Hit him harder.’”
The boy’s mother, Amy Neely, says her son’s friends were also encouraged to hit her son, many of whom were “too scared” not to do so. Although Aiden said that 24 students slapped him, the police report would seem to indicate that only six or seven children did so before the first teacher intervened to stop the assault.
She reported the incident two weeks later and, on May 18, the school district put both teachers on paid administrative leave.
“This kind of activity just can’t go on,” district spokesman Steve Linscomb explained. “This teacher is a relatively young teacher and just needed to be re-educated and reminded what needs to happen in the classroom in order for it to be a safe learning environment.”
The second teacher has been fired and police are filing charges of official oppression against both individuals.
“I don’t want this teacher to be teaching anymore,” said Amy Neely. “She doesn’t need to be around any children.”
What do you think? Should bullies be given a taste of their own medicine?
