kiefer sutherland

Jack Bauer may be able to go 24 hours without sleeping or using the bathroom, but he’s not indestructible.

Production on the set of 24 has been temporarily shut down so that Kiefer Sutherland can undergo surgery to deal with a ruptured cyst near one of his kidneys.

The cyst had ruptured early last week, but shooting continued sans Keifer until Friday, as he wasn’t required for those scenes.

Production was later suspended once they got to some fairly important scenes, however.  The show should resume its regular taping schedule later this week.

“While Kiefer Sutherland is frustrated to miss even one day of work, he and Fox decided together that it would be best to complete this minor elective procedure now as a precaution as opposed to six weeks from now when production wraps,” his publicist said. “He looks forward to returning to work next week.”

“We hope to resume production shortly and do not anticipate any disruption in the broadcast of this season’s episodes” 20th Century Fox said in a prepared statement.
