Remember Marisol Valles Garcia? She’s that 20-year-old college student Blippitt told you about last year who took the job no one else wanted, as the new police chief of Guadalupe, Mexico.
This once-esteemed job is currently one of the most dangerous jobs on the planet now due to the many, violent drug cartels doing business in Mexico.
Well, it seems Valles Garcia has seen the light, and is now reportedly seeking asylum in the United States.
She had apparently “received death threats from a criminal group that wanted to force her to work for them,” an anonymous relative said on Thursday. She “went to the United States along with two relatives and will seek asylum.”
Andres Morales, a spokesman for the Mexican town of Praxedis G. Guerrero, said Valles Garcia will be expected back at work on Monday after taking some time off.
“If she doesn’t return to work (on Monday) she could be removed,” he said, “though that would be up to the mayor.”
I guess we’ll see whether or not she shows up for work on Monday, or whether she’s said “Hasta la vista, baby!”
