Last night’s 2011 MTV Video Music Awards were so chocked full of classic moments, it’s hard to pick a favorite.
First, there was the almost-kiss between Britney Spears and Lady Gaga (dressed as her male alter ego, Joe Calderone). Britney backed out at the last moment, saying, “I’ve already done that,” clearly referring to her infamous 2003 VMA kiss with Madonna.
Backstage afterward, however, the kiss went down.
“It was interesting, her character,” Spears later said of the encounter. “We got onstage and we felt it out.”
Teen sensation Selena Gomez, who helped host the VMAs pre-show, had a bizarre interview with boyfriend, Justin Bieber. As she was interviewing him, Bieber tried to distract her off by holding a small snake in his hand, which he said was named “Johnson”.
After she was done asking questions, he sweetly kissed her on the cheek.
Chris Brown delivered a spectacular performance, during which he covered the 1993 Wu-Tang Clan classic “Protect Ya Neck”, along with Nirvana‘s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”.
He was then lifted high above the crowd on a wire and did back-flips in mid-air. Too bad I’ll never be able to applaud Brown again thanks to his violent beating of Rihanna.
Let’s not forget Beyonce‘s big revelation, which we already discussed here.
