Police report that a 1,400-pound bull that had escaped from a slaughterhouse in New Jersey dragged officers using a lasso down a street and fled for 10 blocks before being captured and tranquilized.

Chief John DeCando, who is a spokesman for Paterson Police Animal Control, says the bull was being unloaded at a local meat-packing plant when it managed to break free just before 8:30 a.m. EDT on Monday morning.

Police attempted to subdue the animal by lassoing a rope around its neck but it then dragged the officers down the road instead.

DeCando reported that, fortunately, the street was not very busy when the bull decided to take off.

Officers finally surrounded the bull and were able to sedate it.

No one was injured during the incident and the bull was returned to the slaughterhouse.

No video of the event was immediately available, but if any turns up, we'll be sure to post it here. Please let us know if you stumble across any.
