Kenneth AllenWhat would you do if you found $13,000?

Kenneth Allen gave it back.

After stopping at the Peachers Mill Road convenience store in Tennessee on Saturday, Kenneth and his wife Kristy spotted a blue bag sitting on top of a trash can right outside.

When they opened it up, they found it to be full of hundred-dollar bills!

“It could have been a purse, and I don’t mess with women’s purses,” Ken, 49, told ABC News. “So I brought it to the car, and when we opened it we saw hundreds of hundred-dollar bills, at which point my wife said, ‘Lock the door!’”

They also found a wallet inside the bag. They tried to call all of the phone numbers they found in it, but they couldn’t reach anyone.

They then went to the address listed on the driver’s license in the wallet, but nobody was home and neighbors didn’t recognize the man in the photo.

They decided to lock the bag in their safe and took it to the police the next day.

There was a total of $12,764.73 in cash in the bag.

Surveillance video from the convenience store shows a man stopping outside the store to unwrap an ice cream sandwich before forgetting the bag of money and leaving it on top of the trash can.

The owner is apparently 51-year-old man who had recently been released from the hospital after having an adverse reaction to some prescriptions. The authorities haven’t released his name, but they say he has since contacted Ken Allen to thank him.

“When he called, I asked, ‘Dude, why did you have so much money?” Allen said. “He didn’t really explain that, but he did say he was very grateful to have it back, and was glad we were the ones who found it.”

Why would someone be carrying that much cash around in bag? Unfortunately, we may never know.
